About Us
The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Satellite, Airborne, and Drone Remote Sensing Lab, operated by Co-I-Palace, is developing, and leading the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for environmental scientific research. We are environmental scientists specializing in the interdisciplinary applications of geospatial science and remote sensing. Our research spans the terrestrial carbon cycle, vegetation dynamics, landscape ecology, and snow characterization, employing field measurements, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis. This work ranges from field studies of vegetation structure to the use of satellite imagery for predicting disease, understanding forest dynamics, and identifying and interpreting past human settlement patterns.
We have served as Principal Investigators on more than fifteen major remote sensing projects, with research supported by NASA, NSF, USAID, USDA, USGS, and DOD. We established an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) center and have deployed UAS platforms for six field campaigns around the world. As former affiliate faculty at the University of Brasília, we have supported and hosted visiting Brazilian PhD students.
At the University of New Hampshire, the Satellite, Airborne, and Drone Remote Sensing Lab — operated by our team — is advancing the use of unmanned aerial systems for environmental research. The lab has been collecting long-term data at several sites for over twelve consecutive years, with projects conducted in remote regions including Alaska, northern Canada, New Hampshire, Maine, Oregon, Vermont, northern Sweden, and northern Finland.
