Internships & Acoustic Research Experiences for Students

  • Two people attaching an instrument to a tree in the forest.

The Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) has several ongoing internship possibilities related to bioacoustics, with options for semester-long or J-term/summer internships. Opportunities exist for in-person, remote, or hybrid internships. Successful applicants would have prior bioacoustics experience, including some experience with coding and using RavenPro. Potential internships include:

  • Training an acoustic classifier to automatically detect rainfall events in acoustic datasets
  • Testing the performance of acoustic classifiers for elephant calls
  • Training a machine learning model for automated classification of African rangeland birds
  • Cataloging publicly available bioacoustics classifiers
Students pursuing degrees in biology, engineering, or computer science with an interest in bioacoustics or acoustics for conservation are encouraged to apply.

Interested students should email care.eos@unh.edu with a brief resume, list of relevant classes/prior experience, and statement of interest in the internship.
