SSC Seminar Series: Solar Wind Driving the Outer Radiation Belt Flux Variation

Abstract: The high-energy electron flux enhancement patterns in the outer radiation belt are observed under the influence of the High-Speed solar wind Streams (HSSs) and Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections (ICMEs). Thirty-seven events during HSSs and ten events during ICMEs are selected during the Van Allen Probes era, in which the high-energy electron flux enhancement starts in L-stars above 5 (for HSSs events) and below 4 (for ICMEs events). Although the physical processes responsible for the high-energy electron flux enhancements in the outer radiation belt are associated with the dynamic of the solar wind structures and interplanetary transients, at the current time, there are still several open questions about that.

This seminar intends to discuss about the physical processes of different kinds of solar wind events. An ideal schematic setup for the sequence of the high-energy electron flux enhancement pattern was built for each kind of pattern and will be discussed in detail. Epoch Analyzes is applied to the interplanetary medium parameters, the magnetopause standoff distance model, the storm indices, the Ultra-Low Frequency (ULF) waves, and the whistler-mode chorus waves.
