Network

The AEON network concentrates observation assets in the Gulf of Maine and totals 5 observation nodes. Research cruises under this project include an initial deployment cruise (2021), a 6-month maintenance cruise (2022), and three 12-month maintenance/recovery cruises (2023, 2024, and 2025). Ancillary data are collected during each cruise to address the question of temporal and spatial data correlation for both active and passive acoustic datasets. Network site locations were strategically determined based on an in-depth analysis of regional assets and collaborations, bathymetry and associated sound propagation models, location of historical and predicted oceanographic features, and ecosystem relevance. Cruise reports and datasets can be found here.
