Michael Smith graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2015. He received his B.S. in Ocean Engineering and his B.A. in Spanish through the International Engineering Program. As part of the program, Michael spent a year learning and working in both Santander and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria of Spain. While overseas, he worked with the AVORA AUV team as well as ocean engineering firms in the Canary Islands, gaining hands on experience in underwater robotics and ocean technologies. Before going abroad, Michael spent some time aboard the E/V Nautilus as an ROV intern. It was here that he solidified his passion for ocean exploration and sea floor mapping. Michael is currently pursuing his Master’s in Ocean Engineering/ Ocean Mapping at CCOM UNH.
In his free time, Michael enjoys skateboard, surfing, kayaking, spearfishing, snowboard and anything else outdoor related. He looks forward to the new adventures New Hampshire will bring.
